The U of M Libraries offer a program of instruction services that aims to teach
students, staff and faculty at the U of M not only how to navigate the Uof M
Libraries but also how to develop and enhance information-seeking and information-gathering skills. The core of the program is course-related instruction, in which librarians work with faculty in the academic departments to teach those skills that students need in course assignments and related research. [For a more detailed description, see Policies and Procedures.] Guided tours
of the main library (McWherter Library) are also offered for groups and individuals.
Instruction sessions are scheduled in the Instruction Center, located on the second
floor of the McWherter Library. The Center has two rooms:
Library instruction should be arranged as early as possible to avoid scheduling conflicts and no later than a week prior to the date of instruction, especially for classes that meet at night. Faculty can schedule instruction sessions and/or room use by contacting the Instruction Coordinator.
If you do not receive a response by telephone or e-mail within 24 hours of your request, call the Reference Desk, 678-2208.
